My Home Life:
I am the 3rd born in my family living in a two bedroom and one living room house with my maternal Grandmother and two siblings (all boys). My Grandmother’s name is Mutesi, Deborah. My responsibilities at home are fetching water from the well, washing utensils, helping my Grandmother with the cooking, doing laundry and cleaning our house.
My Father died in 2019 from a car accident and my Mother left us with our Grandma in search for casual work in other villages. My Grandmother is a casual laborer; she digs in other people’s gardens to earn money. If she digs from morning to evening for six days, she can earn 15,000 shillings ($4.29) Nevertheless, such work is done by many people in our village and it is seasonal so, she does not get work on a weekly basis throughout the year. My Grandma also cultivates and grows foods like maize (corn), pinto beans, and sweet potatoes in our home garden but for only home consumption. The money that my grandmother earns out of casual laboring is to be used to pay for our basic needs at home and there is not enough money; that is why I need a sponsor so that I can continue going to school.
