Hearts & Hope
My Home Life: I am the sixth-born in my family and live with my mother and five siblings—three brothers and two sisters. I always listen to my mother and treat her with great respect. Her name is Jesia Kalembe.
My father has another wife and family, so we don’t spend much time with him. He visits occasionally, but he does not provide any financial support. He currently does not have a job.
My mother runs a small local bar in our village, where she sells moonshine. Her business has a capital of 80,000 shillings, and after a long day of hard work, she earns a profit of about 5,000 shillings ($1.42). In addition, she grows crops like pinto beans, bananas, sweet potatoes, and cassava (a root tuber), mostly for our own consumption.
The money my mother earns from selling moonshine is used to cover our basic needs and to send my siblings and me to school. However, it’s not enough—that’s why I’m asking for your support to help me stay in school and pursue my dreams.
