My Story

My Home Life: I am the only child my mother had. I live with my maternal aunt, Basirika Bayat, along with my cousins and maternal grandmother in a small house with one living room and two bedrooms.

My mother became pregnant with me while she was in Senior 2. After I was born, she left me in the care of her sister—my aunt—to look for work in another village, and she has never returned. I do not know where my father is or what happened to him.

My aunt is both a tailor and a peasant farmer. She mends clothes for people in our village and grows crops like pinto beans, corn, cassava (a root tuber), and sweet potatoes, mainly for home consumption. She earns very little from tailoring and cannot afford to pay for my school fees.
