AN INTRODUCTION TO RIHANA
I live in Makota Village with my maternal aunt, Nali Irene,
and my sibling in a small home with two bedrooms and
one living room. I am the second-born with one brother
and one sister. Sadly, my mother was killed by my father
during an argument in 2021, and my father is currently
serving a prison sentence for the crime.
At home, I help my aunt by washing dishes, collecting
water from the borehole, working in the garden, and
cleaning the house and compound. My aunt is a peasant
farmer who grows maize, pinto beans, cassava,
groundnuts, and sweet potatoes, mainly for our family’s
consumption. She also earns a living through casual labor,
including quarry work. After one to two months of hard
work, she earns about $11.50 from selling stones, of which
$1.50 goes to the landowner.
Despite the difficult circumstances I have faced, I remain
humble, hardworking, and committed to my education. I
hope to continue my studies and build a brighter future. I
humbly ask for your support to help me stay in school,
achieve my dreams, and create a better life for myself
and my family.
