I live in Makota Village with my parents, Bisiriike Hellen (mother)
and Bazaale Elimia (father), and some of my siblings. I am the
ninth-born child in our family of nine children, with three girls and
six boys. Four of my older siblings had to drop out of school
because our family could not afford their school fees, and they
left home to look for casual work. We live in a small house with
two bedrooms and one living room.
At home, I help with household responsibilities such as washing
dishes, collecting water from the borehole, gathering firewood,
doing laundry, working in the garden, cooking meals, and cleaning
our house and compound.
My parents are peasant farmers who grow maize (corn), pinto
beans, sweet potatoes, and cassava, mainly to provide food for our
family. We also have a few coffee trees, but the income they
generate is very small. We harvest about 100 kilograms of coffee
beans during each of the two seasons and earn approximately
UGX 100,000 ($25.52) per season. My parents also work as casual
laborers in other people's gardens. At times, they work for an
entire month in sugarcane plantations and earn about UGX
100,000–150,000.
Despite our financial challenges, I have not given up on my
education. I dream of continuing my studies and building a better
future for myself and my family. I am therefore humbly seeking
educational support so that I can remain in school and pursue my
dreams. If given this opportunity, I will work hard, remain
disciplined and obedient, and make the most of my education.
