My Story

I live in Makota Village with my mother, Naigaga Sarah, and
my four siblings. I am the third-born child in our family. There
are two boys and three girls, and all five of us live with our
mother in a single-room home.
At home, I help my family with many household
responsibilities. I wash dishes, fetch water from the borehole,
collect firewood for cooking, do laundry, work in the garden,
prepare meals, and keep our house and compound clean.
My parents are separated. Since then, my father has not
provided any financial support, leaving my mother to care
for all of us on her own.
Our family faces significant financial challenges, but we are
grateful to kind neighbors who allow us to use their land to
grow food crops such as corn, pinto beans, cassava, and
sweet potatoes. The harvests are usually only enough to
provide food for our family, leaving little or nothing to sell.
My mother also works as a casual laborer in other people's
gardens whenever work is available. For example, she may
work from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for two days and earn only
about UGX 20,000 ($5.12).
Despite these challenges, I remain humble, hardworking, and
hopeful. I value education and dream of continuing my
studies so that one day I can build a better life for myself
and help support my family
