My Story

My Home Life: I am the fourth-born child in my family, with five siblings—one boy and four girls. We live with both of our parents, Nakabambwe Jamira (mother) and Abone James (father).

At home, I help with household responsibilities such as collecting firewood and water, washing dishes, cleaning the house and compound, and assisting with other daily chores.

Both of my parents are peasant farmers. They work hard in our family garden, where they grow crops for both home consumption and sale. After a farming season of about four to five months, they can harvest approximately 300 kilograms of rice. They usually sell about 200 kilograms at UGX 1,800 ($.51) per kilogram and keep the remaining 100 kilograms for family consumption.

My parents also produce and sell charcoal. They typically make six to seven bags of charcoal, using a capital of about UGX 180,000. After the entire production and selling process, which takes one to two months, they earn a profit of approximately UGX 200,000 (about $57.14).

Although my parents work very hard, the income they earn from farming and charcoal production is not enough to meet all our basic needs and pay school fees for me and my siblings. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
