My Story

My Home Life: I am the first-born child in my family, with four siblings—two boys and two girls. We live with both of our parents and my paternal grandmother, Nabirye Jowelia. My mother is Mutesi Zainah.

At home, I help with household responsibilities such as washing clothes, cleaning the house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting both firewood for cooking and water from the borehole.

My father is rarely at home because he has another family with a wife and children. He buys and resells eggs at a small scale, but the income is not enough to support both families adequately. My mother and grandmother are peasant farmers who grow crops such as maize, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and cassava for both home consumption and sale.

For example, they may harvest about three bags of maize, each weighing 100 kilograms. They usually sell one bag for approximately UGX 60,000 (about $17.14) after a farming season of about four months, while keeping the other two bags for home consumption until the next harvest.

However, the combined income from my father’s business and my mother’s and grandmother’s farming is not enough to meet all our basic needs or pay school fees for me and my siblings. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
