My Story

My Home Life: I am the first-born child in my family, with four siblings—one girl and three boys. We live with both of our paternal grandparents, Mutesi Ruth (grandmother) and Mufumba Richard (grandfather), while our father is rarely at home. As a result, our grandparents are the ones who mainly take care of us. My parents separated, and my mother’s whereabouts are unknown.

At home, I help with household responsibilities such as cooking, washing clothes, working in the garden, cleaning our house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting both firewood for cooking and water from the borehole.

My grandparents are peasant farmers who grow crops such as maize, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and cassava for both home consumption and sale. For example, they may harvest about two bags of maize, each weighing 100 kilograms, and sell one bag for approximately UGX 60,000 (about $17.14) while keeping the other for home use.

However, the income my grandparents earn from farming is not enough to meet all our basic needs or pay school fees for me and my siblings. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
