Hearts & Hope
My Home Life: I am the first-born child in my family, with two siblings—one girl and one boy. We all live with our maternal grandmother, Naigaga Jamira, along with other grandchildren (my cousins).
At home, I help with various household responsibilities such as cooking, washing clothes, working in the garden, cleaning our house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting both firewood for cooking and water from the borehole.
My parents separated, and my mother sent me to live with my grandmother. My father’s whereabouts are unknown, and my mother left our village in search of work. She occasionally sends small financial support, but it is not enough to cover our basic needs.
My grandmother is a peasant farmer who grows crops such as maize, groundnuts, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and cassava for both home consumption and sale. For example, she may harvest about 200 kilograms of maize and only sells part of the harvest when there is a need at home.
However, the income from my grandmother’s farming, together with the occasional support from my mother, is not enough to meet all our basic needs or pay school fees for me and the other children in the household. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
