My Story

My Home Life: I am the third-born child in my family, with four siblings—one girl and two boys. We all live with our maternal grandmother, Naigaga Sara.

At home, I help with various responsibilities such as working in the garden, cleaning our house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting both firewood for cooking and water from the borehole.

My parents separated, and my mother sent us to live with our grandmother. My father does not provide any financial support, and my mother has since remarried. She works in a small retail shop selling basic household items in another village and is only able to send small financial support whenever she can.

My grandmother is a peasant farmer who grows crops such as maize, groundnuts, sweet potatoes, and beans. For example, she may sell maize for about UGX 60,000 ($17.14) and beans for about UGX 50,000 ($14.29). We also keep three cows from which we collect milk to sell within our village, earning about UGX 6,000 (about $1.71) per day from approximately six cups of milk.

However, the income from my grandmother’s farming and milk sales, together with the small support from my mother, is not enough to meet all our basic needs or pay school fees for me and my siblings. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
