My Story

My Home Life: I am the first-born child in my family, with two siblings, all of whom are girls. My siblings live with our stepmother, while I live with my paternal grandmother, Namuyomba Alice.

At home, I help with household responsibilities such as cooking, washing clothes, working in the garden, cleaning our house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting both firewood for cooking and water from the borehole.

My parents separated, and my mother’s whereabouts are unknown. My father works as a shop attendant in a retail shop, where he earns a small monthly salary. He also has another wife, who is the mother of my siblings, so his limited income is divided between two households.

My grandmother cares for me and five other grandchildren. She is a peasant farmer who grows crops such as maize, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and cassava for both home consumption and sale over a farming season of about four months. She also grows coffee, harvesting about 50–100 kilograms per year and earning a profit of approximately UGX 150,000–300,000 (about $42.86–$85.71) annually.

The combined income from my father and grandmother is not enough to meet all our basic needs or pay school fees for me, my siblings, and the other grandchildren under my grandmother’s care. For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to continue my education and achieve my dreams for a better future.
