My Story

My Home Life: I am the sixth-born child in a family of six children, with two brothers and two sisters besides myself. We all live with our parents, Kyagane Stephen (father) and Namwase Sylvia (mother). At home, I help by preparing tea, cleaning the house and compound, washing dishes, collecting firewood for cooking, and fetching water from the borehole.

Both of my parents are peasant farmers who grow crops such as maize (corn), sweet potatoes, beans, cassava, and coffee. These crops are used both for family consumption and for sale. For example, after a farming season of about four months, they may harvest three 100-kilogram bags of maize. They usually sell one bag for about UGX 60,000 ($17.14) and keep the remaining two bags for household consumption until the next harvest season.

My parents also grow coffee and can harvest between 10 and 20 kilograms of coffee beans after six months. Each kilogram is sold for about UGX 1,000 ($0.29). The income earned from selling part of our harvest is not enough to meet all of our family's basic needs and pay school fees for me and my siblings.

For this reason, I am seeking sponsorship to help me continue my education and achieve my dreams for the future.
