Hearts & Hope
My Home Life: I am the third-born in a family of three children—one girl and one boy. We live with our maternal grandmother, Namusoke Fatuma, and our maternal uncle, Bazigo Karim. At home, I help with garden work, cleaning the house and compound, washing dishes, and collecting firewood for cooking as well as water from the borehole.
My parents separated and abandoned us, and their whereabouts are unknown. My grandmother and uncle are peasant farmers who grow food crops such as maize (corn), sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and cassava for both consumption and sale. For example, they may harvest three bags of maize, each weighing 100 kilograms, and sell one bag for 60,000 shillings ($17.14) while keeping the other two for home use. However, the money they earn from selling part of the harvest is not enough to cover all our basic needs and pay school fees for me and my siblings. That is why I am seeking a sponsor to help me continue my education and achieve my dreams.
