Hearts & Hope
My Home Life: I am the sixth-born in my family and live with my mother, Anyango Rose, and five siblings—three boys and one girl. My father abandoned us, and we have not heard from him since then; his whereabouts remain unknown.
At home, I help with collecting firewood, fetching water from the well, washing dishes, doing garden work, and keeping our house and compound clean.
My mother is a peasant farmer. She grows crops like pinto beans and maize (corn) in our home garden, both for family consumption and to sell. For example, after four months of farming, she may harvest 100 kilograms of beans and sell 50 kilograms for 25,000 shillings (about $7.14).
However, this small income is not enough to cover all our basic needs or pay school fees for me and my siblings.
