Hearts & Hope
My Home Life: I am the second-born among four siblings—two brothers and one sister. My mother’s name is Namukose Salima, and my stepfather’s name is Mawanda Silimani. My biological father passed away in a car accident when I was just three years old. Later, my mother remarried.
At home, I help by collecting firewood, fetching water from the well, washing dishes, and keeping our house and compound clean.
My stepfather works as a casual laborer in construction, and my mother earns a small income by buying and reselling sweet bananas. When the bananas are in season, she makes a profit of about 15,000 shillings (approximately $4.29) every 1–2 weeks. She also buys and resells moonshine, earning a weekly profit of around 15,000–20,000 shillings ($4.29–$5.71). Sometimes, family friends lend us a piece of land where we grow food crops such as cassava (a root tuber), pinto beans, and maize (corn), mainly for home consumption.
The combined income from my mother and stepfather is used to cover our family's basic needs and pay school fees for me and my siblings. However, it is not enough.
That is why I am kindly asking for your support—to help me stay in school and work toward a better future.
