The Story of Sumaya

For more than ten years, Mark has had the privilege of sponsoring Sumaya, a wonderful and determined young woman in Uganda. He has watched her grow and excel in her studies, and she is now in secondary school with dreams of completing her education and building a bright future.

An Unseen Obstacle

Tragically, Sumaya's journey is now at risk. For months, she has been battling a persistent and mysterious illness. The symptoms have left her unable to regularly attend school, and her health continues to decline without a clear cause. Her family has done everything they can, taking her to local clinics near their village, but medical professionals there have been unable to diagnose the problem. Her future hangs in the balance, stalled by a medical puzzle no one can solve.

Our Plan for Hope

We can't stand by while Sumaya's health and education are on the line. Our plan is to take her to the capital city, Kampala, where she can be seen by specialists at a major hospital. The doctors there believe the essential next step is to perform an MRI scan—a diagnostic tool unavailable in her region. This scan is our best hope to finally understand what is happening and unlock the door to the right treatment.
