Our mission teams stay in hotels each night. This provides an opportunity for the team to reflect on their experiences during the day, discuss plans for the next day, and connect with each other.
Most often, we stay at the Sunset Hotel International in Jinja. This hotel is situated on the banks of the Nile and is our home away from home when in Uganda.

What vaccinations are required?
Yellow Fever vaccine is required to enter Uganda. Consult your doctor for other recommended vaccinations and health precautions for travel to Uganda. Malaria prevention medications and Typhoid fever vaccine are also highly encouraged.
What is the accommodation like?
Accommodation is at the Sunset International Hotel in Jinja, Uganda. A/C and hot showers will all be available in each room. Wifi is spotty, but is available in certain areas of the hotel.
Will I have access to internet and communication?
Internet access may be limited in some areas. Consider bringing a local SIM card for your phone or purchasing an international data pass from your phone provider.

How long does it take to get to Uganda from St. Louis?
The flight time from St. Louis to Entebbe, Uganda, is approximately 24-29 hours, depending on the number of layovers. There are no direct flights, so we will need to connect through at least one airport. The trip there usually consists of one domestic flight, a flight to Europe, and then a third flight down to Africa. Hearts & Hope will book all the flights in order to keep the group together and on the same itinerary.

What is the currency in Uganda?
The official currency of Uganda is the Ugandan shilling (UGX). Approx 3600 schillings is equal to 1 dollar. We will get personal money converted to schillings for you depending on your amount requested once we are in country.
What is the language spoken in Uganda?
The primary language in Uganda is English, although Luganda and other local languages are also widely spoken. Most adults know some English, however, the young children we encounter will not know English. We will have many staff members available to help translate if needed.
