**Josephine is the 1st born in her family. She lives with her stepmother, father and siblings in a single room mud house. Josephine’s biological mother died of cancer on August 16, 2016. The father and stepmother are both peasant farmers who grow crops such as maize, beans, potatoes and cassava (root tuber) in their home garden for both home consumption and to sell. They can for example harvest one bag of maize weighing 100kgs, sell 50kgs at UGX.50000 ($14.29) and leave the other 50kgs for home consumption. They also are casual laborers, digging in other people’s gardens from 6am to 11am and earn UGX.3000 ($.86) each per day. Unfortunately, this work is not consistent so they cannot count on the work.**
**The money Josephine’s father and stepmother earn from selling some of their yields and casual laboring is used to pay for their basic needs at home and also send the children to school, but it’s not enough, hence needing help with their child’s education.**
